You don’t need to pick the same topic as I do.
I had mentioned on my Monday post that I had to see the ophthalmologist because my shingles were under my eye and it could have caused some damage.
I was instructed to go to the ophthalmologist clinic at the hospital and to give them the referral paper from the doctor who diagnosed me. When I got to the ophthalmologist’s clinic, I was immediately told that I had to register at the Emergency Room before seeing an ophthalmologist.
Me: But I’m already diagnosed. I saw a doctor at the clinic and now I just need to see an ophthalmologist.
Receptionist: That’s not how it works. In order for you to see an ophthalmologist without an appointment, you need to go through the Emergency room. She is hear till 4 p.m so there should not be a problem.
It was 10:30 in the morning. I head down to the Emergency room to register. First, I had to go through Triage.

Triage Nurse: I don’t understand why you came here. You have the referral paper from a doctor already. Why don’t you go to see the ophthalmologist with this?
Me: I already did but she told me I had to go through Emergency.
Triage Nurse: That doesn’t make sense. You already waited to be diagnosed. Why do you have to get diagnosed again? I’m going to call them
…..
(ring…ring…ring). (There is no answer, so she gets up and leaves to talk to someone).
Triage Nurse: O.K. I’m going to register you in the Emergency. The ophthalmologist will see you here.
Me: O.K
Triage Nurse: It shouldn’t take long.
One hour later…..
Two hours later….Three…Four…..Five….
Wait… It’s already 16:00. Wasn’t I told she leaves at this time?
I then find out that she already left and if I wanted to get diagnosed, I could continue to wait, otherwise if I wanted to see her, I’d have to come back and wait again. Apparently, the emergency room had a Code Purple this day.
WTF? I already got diagnosed. I waited 5 hours for nothing. I immediately thought of many other things I could have done with my time.
Next day, hubby contacts his Optometrist who tells me to immediately head down to his office. He will check out my cornea and if there is any damage, he will send me to the ophthalmologist across the street from his office.
I head down and he sees me right away, no appointment. He checks my eyes for 5 minutes and tells me that there is no damage. “Just make sure you keep taking the medication”, he advises.
Why didn’t I do Step B in the first place! Lesson learned.

What a yucky way to spend the day. Not to mention it does not sound as if they were all that organized, making you go through the ER when you already had a diagnosis.

very frustrating I have been there to the same ER (LOL) but really the ER is awful to go to I hated it when the children got sick on the weekends and the doctors office was not open it always took forever to see anyone
OMG That is awful!!! I feel like the front desk staff at doctor’s offices are sometimes soulless!!!

Oh my that is a long wait for nothing. I would have been fuming mad! I am really glad to hear that there is no damage to yours eyes.
Five hours? I’d be so darn pissed if that happened to me. I wouldn’t have that amount of patience to wait that long,in the first place. What a day. I understand how frustrating it was for you.If it’s any consolation,at least you found out from another doc that your eyes aren’t damaged.

That sucks! What a relief that your eyes are fine, though. I am amazed at how patient you were! I’m sure I would have lost it after the first hour.
OMG Maria! That is so frustrating to have to wait for nothing! I am not one who likes being asked to wait for anything, if that were me in your place, I would’ve thrown a temper tantrum, lucky for them you’re more patient than I am!
That is the reason why I hate hospitals and nurses and doctors! Because most of the time they think they are all that and act as if everybody else is not a priority unless they’re bleeding to death!
I love my friends who are nurses though…

Firstly, I am also glad to know you have no damage to your eyes. What a relief!
Secondly, Grrrrrr! And that’s being waaay too polite. I was reading about your day and just shaking my head in disbelief. You’d think they would work in with one another for the good of the patients.
I’m glad it’s all had a positive outcome, Maria. Did you get to catch up on some magazines in the waiting room? I would have devoured them ’cause I never buy mags. lol
