A surprise few days off
I woke up on Saturday morning with what looked to me like an eye infection. Except that I also had blisters under my eye.
Ugly? Yes. Painful? Yes.
Hubby thought I should go directly to the clinic but I wanted to pass by work first.
Me: Are you kidding? I cannot call in sick during my new boss’s first week in our store. What is he going to think?
Hubby: (setting expectations) Call me when you leave work to go to the clinic.
Went to work and apparently it was disgusting enough for my boss to suggest (with a little hint on my side) to go to the clinic.
I told him I’d come back after I see the doctor.
Turns out I’m off till Thursday. Those ugly, painful, blisters under my eye are shingles. So I have to stay away from the public for a few days. I also have to go see an ophthalmologist today. Since the shingles are so close to my eye, it could cause some complications to my vision. Hopefully the cream and pills I’m taking for it will keep it under control.
I guess my husband was right about going to the clinic.

Shingles are painful. I have never heard of shingles under or near the eye though. Get better soon!

Sorry to hear about that,Maria. But it’s a good thing that your boss advised you to go to the clinic. He may have felt your discomfort. At least it came from him so there should be less guilt on your part not to be able to come to work for a few days.Hope those shingles will be gone soon.
You were only given a few days? I was given two weeks when I had it. Mine was on my back and it was super itchy!!! and yucky too, haha.
Get well soon. I remember the antibiotics were expensive.

I got my first case of shingles on my eye when I was a teenager and I’ve had them off and on ever since. It took about 3 weeks for the blisters to dry up. Shingles travel along nerves, so an eye doctor told me that mine travel along the optic nerve and that I should see him (no pun intended) any time I get them.

We’re lucky these days that they actually have meds for it. People used to have to let it run its course, and that can be awful. It can cause major scarring. Get well soon!
Oh my goodness! That is a little scary! I’m glad you went to the doctor! I hope it goes away very soon!

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear. I’ve heard shingles can be painful as well. I hope it clears up soon.
As soon as I read that you wanted to go to work first, I wanted to reach through the computer and take you to the clinic myself BEFORE work. lol
My father has severe vision problems and eyes are things you just don’t muck about with. They’re precious. Shingles near the eye sounds too scary to even contemplate. I always thought they took months to heal. I know they are painful. My Mum had them when I was a kid.
I have everything crossed for a successful, no vision problem, SPEEDY recovery. Take care.
