I’m all for Consumers shopping at the store I work for. In fact, the more they shop, the less hours I have to cut. However, there are just some customers that should be home instead of shopping.
I was doing my daily “rounds” checking out that everything was o.k. I heard this incredible hacking cough, the one that comes from deep within. It was clear that whoever was the owner of this cough was in need of TLC. I could also tell that the cough came from a baby. I found this baby who was trying desperately to sleep in his stroller, except that his cough was keeping him from sleeping properly. His cheeks were bright red and he was completely bundled up even though he was inside.
The bigger problem?
There was no parent around. I kept close to the stroller and looked out for his parent. About 5 minutes later, a woman comes back from 2 departments away and looks at me with a, “why are you near my baby” look. I told her that I stayed with her son to make sure he was o.k because his cough sounded pretty bad (hint…hint). She looked at me with an annoying look and replied, “I shop faster without carrying the stroller and he was sleeping so I didn’t want to wake him up”.
I really wanted to say SO much more but kept my mouth closed because I was working and thus represented my company. Does this Lady need that sweater she had in her hand so badly that she dragged her sick child to a mall, only to leave him alone and defenseless? Sometimes I wish I could hand out “Bad Parenting Tickets”.

Oh, there are really parents who are insensitive of their kids. Pitiful kids!

OMG, poor baby! Good thing you weren’t a kidnapper who sells babies to the black market to be made as slaves! That happens here… Some people shouldn’t be allowed to have kids… I would never leave my kids unattended in a public place, I mean at home it’s fine, but in a mall or department store… Tsk tsk, that mom should’ve known better… I would’ve expected something like that from a dad, but from a mom? Tsk…

I can’t believe that not only did she drag her sick baby out but then she wandered far away from it. I’m glad you were there to make sure no babynapper took the baby!
That is HORRIBLE!!! I cannot even believe that some people are parents!! I mean, her list of offenses is so great it’s hard to imagine that social services hasn’t become involved! Thank God you had the good sense to stay near by!
That is terrible to drag a sick child to the mall. I could see running to the convenience store for a gallon of milk with a sick child, but I can’t imagine any emergency that would force you to be at the mall. She is very lucky that a kind person was near her child and not a wacko.

Thats awful that she took him there. Good for you to stay by his side too. Some mommies need to learn thats not right.

Aww, poor baby. Sad that some people are willing to leave their kids unattended.

Awww… I can’t believe that. I really think bad parenting tickets sounds like a good idea. I couldn’t imagine leaving my child alone in a store, sleeping or not .. I mean really is this parent not aware of the world we live in? Not to mention if her child was that sick she should have been home with the baby cuddling him and nursing him back to health
Sad.

Doesn’t she realize how many babies are stolen or kidnapped every year. Bad parent, bad!!!!!
OMG! I just cannot believe this. First of all, I would never take my poor baby out when she was sick. That’s just not fair to her. Last week when she was sick, I was so thankful we have a drive through convenience store so I could pick up the few things I needed, but I even hated taking her out for that.
But really? She left the stroller!?!? That is just insane, I’d be tempted to call CPS (or the equivalent) because someone could have EASILY taken the baby. How sad.

Wow, that brought tears to my eyes. How sad that some parents are like that. Poor little baby.

That’s appalling. For a parent to leave her baby alone in a public place so she can shop faster, that’s preposterous. What if some psycho took her baby? She should have been thankful that you were kind enough to “baby-sit” on her behalf. grrr! some people.

Poor baby. She was unfortunate to have that uncaring parent.
