Hubby and I were looking for a universal remote because we were tired of using one remote for the Digital Cable Box, another for the Sound System, another for the DVD and then finally another for the VCR. We had one but it broke down and we didn’t want to go back to using 4 remotes.
Hubby calls me one day to talk about a promotion they were having at a local store. There was this “amazing” Logitech Harmony Remote that was last year’s model so it was 60% off. He proceeded to tell me all it could do. Does it work all our equipment? Yes. That’s all I cared about.
He comes home with this remote. To get it programmed, he had to go online and enter the programming for each equipment. Hubby did all the programming than wanted to explain to me how it worked. The smart person that I am, I replied, “Don’t worry, I’ll figure it out”. At that time I was feeding Tyler and wanted to get him to bed. How complicated can it be anyways?
I didn’t even really bother to look at the remote until the next day when hubby was at work.
I wanted to watch TV. I pick up the remote and click on “Watch TV”…… Cool, I knew this would be easy. The remote turned on the TV, Digital Cable Box and the Sound System all on its own. So far, so good.
Then I wanted to use the Menu to program a show that I would not be able to watch. I click on VCR and notice on the screen of the remote that there are 16…..YES…16 pages of options. It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to program a show. By the end, I didn’t even care about watching the show anymore.
Technology is great, but what happened to the simple times when one remote controlled everything but it didn’t require you to study a manual to figure it out?
When I finally figured out how to work everything, hubby showed me how to work the remote, I realized that it is actually an awesome remote. But the learning process was a little frustrating. As long as hubby does all the necessary programming, I’ll be fine.

I can relate. My hubby is still using 4 remote control here. At first I thought that was something strange, then, I understood.
Well at least we are down to three remotes. The cable remote is suppose to handle the TV but it doesn’t.
Have a good weekend.

I’m too lazy to read manual books of any gadget or electronic things. I used to learn how to use it from my hubby…
Hehehe you made me smile.I hate reading manuals,I usually try to figure things out for myself (and most of the time,i end up reading the manual hehehe). Technological innovations are great but you’re right, the learning process gets a little frustrating. You’ll get used to your remote in time. =)

Oh, I still can’t use the fancy remote we have – I can turn things on and off, and change the channel, but that’s about it. And if the power goes out, or something else weird happens forget it! One of my teens, or the DH, does something – I don’t really understand hat. They keep on showing me. It IS frustrating!
blech… I hate dealing with remote controls
I don’t like the manuals for them at all… I tend to mis synch whatever buttons were at one point synched to something on the tv. Then they stop working

we have 3 different remotes to work everything we have and I’m clueless other than to turn the tv on and change the channel.
I am venting !

There is nothing in the house that is more frustrating then the dam remotes and my husband doesn’t know how to even turn on a computer or use a cell phone therefore soon we’ll have to go to a senior home and live just to use the tv..
This user friendly (not so) gadgets make us crazy.

Hey girl- I completely and absolutely understand what you’re talking about. I have a camera that I bought last year.

I know how to use some of it but lots of things I don’t know how to do. In my opinion these things should come with video tutorials – LOL
I love technology whe I understand it – hee hee.
Blessings,

My husband has the same remote and I just stay away from it. Way too many buttons for me!

It seems the more technologically advanced we get, the more bells and whistles there are, and thus it just gets more and more complicated.
