Hubby and I were looking for a universal remote because we were tired of using one remote for the Digital Cable Box, another for the Sound System, another for the DVD and then finally another for the VCR.  We had one but it broke down and we didn’t want to go back to using 4 remotes.

Hubby calls me one day to talk about a promotion they were having at a local store.  There was this “amazing” Logitech Harmony Remote that was last year’s model so it was 60% off.  He proceeded to tell me all it could do.  Does it work all our equipment?  Yes.  That’s all I cared about.

6614 Friday Frustrations Technology confuses meHe comes home with this remote.  To get it programmed, he had to go online and enter the programming for each equipment.  Hubby did all the programming than wanted to explain to me how it worked.  The smart person that I am, I replied, “Don’t worry, I’ll figure it out”. At that time I was feeding Tyler and wanted to get him to bed.  How complicated can it be anyways?

I didn’t even really bother to look at the remote until the next day when hubby was at work.

I wanted to watch TV.  I pick up the remote and click on “Watch TV”…… Cool, I knew this would be easy.  The remote turned on the TV, Digital Cable Box and the Sound System all on its own.  So far, so good.

Then I wanted to use the Menu to program  a show that I would not be able to watch.  I click on VCR and notice on the screen of the remote that there are 16…..YES…16 pages of options.  It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to program a show.  By the end, I didn’t even care about watching the show anymore.

Technology is great, but what happened to the simple times when one remote controlled everything but it didn’t require you to study a manual to figure it out?

When I finally figured out how to work everything, hubby showed me how to work the remote, I realized that it is actually an awesome remote.  But the learning process was a little frustrating.  As long as hubby does all the necessary programming, I’ll be fine.
