Can you tell your Child’s personality by the way he breastfeeds?

O.K so there is going to be no scientific data to back my theory, but hey that’s why it’s my theory.
I could tell a lot about the differences between my two sons, by the way they breastfeed or breastfed. Their style and needs matches a lot with their style while not breastfeeding as well.
Breastfeeding Style:
Jeffrey: Always wanted to be feeding. He’d just finish his one hour feeding and after 30 min., he would scream for more. He was all about the Quantity. He had no problem doing the same thing over and over.
Tyler: He always pulls out if it takes too long. He’s about the Quality. He gets what he needs and moves on. He’s also content to wait until his next feeding. Even when he was a newborn, he fed every 4 hours.
While not feeding:
Jeffrey: Jeffrey loves in between snacks. He still wants quantity. He won’t eat large portions but would have a snack every hour if he could. I remember as an infant, I would spend hours (exaggerated of course) doing the same silly faces which would result in laughter every time.
Tyler: Still about Quality. He doesn’t waste time and gets bored easily. Do you know how kids can watch you make the same funny face over and over again and find it funny? Not my son. After 2-3 times, he looks at you like, “Are you kidding? You did this already”.
I love their individuality. It makes for very exciting days.

It’s a meme all about helping Monday’s not get a bum rap. How am I going to make this Monday matter to me?
I mentioned how my sister underwent an operation on Thursday night. Well, today I’m spending the day trying to entertain her as much as possible in the hospital. If I can, hopefully she’ll forget a little about her discomfort.

I never really thought about that before. My kids were definitely different but I can’t say that how they were back then translates to today. Actually they may have flip flopped.
Hmmm….I don’t know. I nursed my first for a year and he was always very calm. My second never did because I had to have an operation that prevented my from lactating and he’s a wild man.
That is so interesting! I’ll have to see if I notice this as Logan gets older (and with my next child). One thing’s for sure – he was a “every two hours” eater back then and he still is one now!
P.S. Thank you for the comment on my post about the fraud bloggers the other day. I agree it’s sad they are tainting the real stories.

That is a very interesting theory. I hadn’t thought of it before but it makes sense.
That’s intereting! I only have one child but he definitely has his own individual personality and I’m sure that extends to his breastfeeding style.

After four? NAH.
Three were stupendous eaters, one with problems latching on, then became a stupendous eater.
You know when you can see personalities for the first time? When they start to crawl. And when they approach a slide.

I never thought about it before, but I have to agree. My kids’ nursing style does reflect their personalities.

Thanks for sharing. You’re theory might be true. My baby has his own feeding style. Hey Mom, in case you have cool business ideas I’d say just go for it.
every 4 hours? you’re lucky you can have a lot of time in between with Tyler. my son was every 2 hours or less… or else he wails!

Based on my Mom’s stories before, I’m more like your son Tyler and my younger brother is like Jeffrey. My Mom used to tell my brother “you used to breast feed a lot until I ran out of milk and now you don’t even kiss me or hug me when you see me??” LOL.

A very interesting survey you have done. My son breastfed until he was 3 and I can honestly tell you that he is much bigger than the other kids his age. Not fat, just taller and more built.
As far as I can remember, Tyron would usually feed at certain intervals. Lets just say that he was not fussy and there was a lot to go around. Even I had a taste to see how it was, just curious I guess.
