This Week’s Small Talk Six Topic: 6 Things other People do that Make Me Personally Uncomfortable.
1. Close Talkers- Especially with people I hardly know. When people stand very close to you while talking. Even if you slowly pull away, they sometimes slowly walk towards you again.
2. Personal Hygiene - People who take care of a personal hygiene or annoyance in front of you ( nose picking, scratching an itch in a particular place etc…). I don’t need to see that.
3. It’s not Funny - People who make Jokes at the Expense of others. If I’m not laughing, this should be a cue that it’s not funny.
4. Keep it Behind Doors – When I go out with another couple and they start arguing and yelling with each other in front of me. I don’t know how to react and it makes me uncomfortable. The opposite is true too. If they start making out or groping each other. Just do it behind closed doors people.
5. Am I that Interesting? - When people stare at you…and stare….and stare. You look at them to give them a hint that you see them, but they don’t look away.
6. Keep your anger at a level – I’m all about freedom of speech but sometimes when I’m in a public setting with my children, there is someone who chooses to make loud, rude or racist comments. I know it’s not my business, and they are not directed at me, but when you say it for the whole room to hear, especially my children, then I have a right to not agree. I usually walk away if I can but not before becoming a little uncomfortable.
Me too Mommy! That’s my Top 6 if I were to make one (which thankfully I don’t have to since I am not in the mood). All of the 6 things you mentioned. I would love to say especially on one thing but nah.
Number two’s really gross though, I hates seeing people who does that in public.

I’m with ya on the personal hygiene thing. The sound of a nail clipper in public makes me shudder.
Oh yeah. The close talkers bother me too. Seems like they would get the hint when we back up three steps, but no – they take four steps forward.

Have you ever seen that episode of Seinfeld about the Close Talker? I have thankfully never known a close talker. I have had the unfortunate experience of knowing loud talkers though. They’re the worse!

Close talkers really irk me too, but it’s funny you mention the personal hygiene because I always catch people picking their noses in the car – ie, stopped at a traffic light. do they think they are invisible?
